This is a bit more than expected when I opened this. I was expecting something like ‘go kill this giant rat in the sewers,’ not ‘hey, someone in the Dawncrest royal family needs to talk with you.’ I debate going upstairs and waking up the girls, but if this is just a quest where I traipse through the city and talk to a few NPCs it shouldn’t be a big deal. And they’ll probably find me if they wake up, so I accept the quest and put the letter in my pocket and stand. As I leave, Madam Margretta approaches me once more.

“You know, if you’re headed out and you want to make some extra coin, there’s something you could do for me.”

“Oh?”

“This fellow named Rufio skipped out on his bill. Used some type of magic to escape the charms that I have preventing people from essentially dining and dashing. Shouldn’t be too much trouble, but that’s only if you can find him. The bastard’s wily and knows more of the shadow bolts of the city than anyone else I know.”

“So, why do you even let him in then? And I thought you had an upfront payment policy?”

She sighs, long-suffering. “It’s just the way of our world. Everybody has needs, and mine just happens to include needing money. Which means needing customers. Besides, his was a bet at one of the card games, he paid plenty for the drinks he had. So, will you?”

I think about it. It shouldn’t be too hard, and I don’t actually have to engage in combat if I don’t want to. I hold out my hand to shake, and she clasps it. “I’ll see what I can do. If the girls wake up, tell them I am on my way to the Sun Forge.”
